Students develop speed and accuracy while learning how to type using the touch-method of typing with emphasis on mastery of the keyboard with desired keyboarding techniques. The second half of the semester is devoted to introductory to word processing. Students learn basic skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Lessons include letters, reports, title pages, bibliographies, tables, and resumes.
Keyboarding is a prerequisite for Information Processing.
Information Processing
Students gain advanced skills in various Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Students develop a problem-based learning approach that involves learning by performing with use of real-world application and problems. Students create documents, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations that reflect professional and personal purposes. Additionally, students will be exposed to various web 2.0 applications such as Weebly, Prezi, PowToons, Photoshop, etc.
This class is open to any sophomore, junior, and senior who has met the keyboarding course requirements.
Accounting
Students are introduced to the field of accounting while gaining full understanding of accounting principles. Students work around a full financial accounting cycle for a proprietorship (service business) as well as the financial accounting cycle and payroll for a corporation (merchandising business). Students learn the double-entry accounting system of recording transactions, how to prepare various financial statements, how to prepare payroll records, and how to "close the books."
This course is open to any junior or senior.
Marketing/Entrepreneurship
Marketing consumes the 1st semester of the course. Students will gain a comprehensive overview of the field of marketing. A wide variety of topics will be discussed, including, but not limited to, marketing analysis and segmentation, market research, type of consumers, 4Ps of marketing, advertising, selling, and careers in marketing. Entrepreneurship consumes the 2nd semester of the course. This semester is designed to teach students how to research, develop, and write detailed start-up business plans. Students will gain in-depth knowledge on the benefits and risks of self-employment. This practical, hands-on course will allow students to gain and enhance problem-solving and analytical skills as it relates to real-world application.
This course is open to any sophomore, junior, or senior.
